Gravity die casting is a method of fully filling metal melts into a mold by gravity to form a method of manufacturing metal castings. Its principle is to use a gravity die casting machine to cast molten metal or alloy from a furnace into a mold, followed by solidification and cooling, and finally obtain the required casting.

During gravity die casting, the mass of molten metal or alloy is stabilized by flow, thereby ensuring the accuracy of the size and shape of the castings being cast. Gravity casting has the advantages of high production efficiency, low cost and simple process, so it is widely used in aviation, automobile, machinery manufacturing and other fields.

Gravity die casting technology is an advanced metal casting technology that uses gravity as the force to fill the cavity in the mold through the free flow of molten metal. Compared with other processes such as die casting and extrusion, gravity casting technology has the following advantages:

1. High production efficiency

Gravity die casting technology is easy to operate and has high production efficiency, because it uses gravity as power to fill the mold, does not need to use high pressure, so does not need high-speed presses, and does not need to wait for the gas pressure to reduce the exhaust process, so the production cycle can be greatly reduced shorten. For some large workpieces, gravity die casting can save a lot of time and manpower.

2. High precision and high stability

The biggest benefit of gravity die casting technology is to provide high precision and high stability. Gravity die  casting can realize linear control of weight and ensure the precision of each casting. The advantage of its quantitative control is that when producing a group of castings, the qualified rate is high, the hardness distribution is uniform, and precision castings as small as 0.1mm can also be produced.

3. Reduce production costs

Compared with die casting, extrusion and other processes, the use of gravity casting process can reduce the cost of mass production. This is because gravity die casting is easier than die casting or extrusion for the same form of product without additional processing steps. Die casting or extrusion requires extra work to repair damage or defects and is therefore more expensive.

4. Uniform wall thickness of the casting

The gravity casting process can ensure that the wall thickness of each casting is uniform. This is because the mold hangs from the bottom of the mold where the cast workpiece emerges. Therefore, in the gravity die casting process, the main driving force for metal flow is slowly extending static force, which makes the flow rate and temperature distribution very uniform and avoids the situation of uneven wall thickness.

n short, gravity casting technology, as an efficient, accurate and low-cost metal casting technology, is more and more widely used in the field of casting. Compared with traditional die-casting, extrusion and other processes, gravity casting technology has higher precision and stability, which can greatly shorten the production cycle and reduce production costs. It is a more efficient metal casting technology
